Gløgg //: the ultimate winter warmer

The traditional Scandinavian drink of Gløgg is bound to give you that Nordic feeling of hygge//: mood of cosiness. It is a perfect start to an evening sharing it with good friends.

If you really want to try this the Nordic way, head outside at night, grab your thermos with gløgg, your anorak and gather around an open fire. For me for this is a beautiful tradition, I hope it might be yours too. ⠀

Gløgg Recipe - the recipe gives you 6 generous glasses of ‘gløgg’ ⠀

1 bottle red wine⠀

1 teaspoon cardamom kernels⠀

5 cloves⠀

1 large stick of cinnamon⠀

1 piece orange peel, dried⠀

1 large piece of ginger⠀

2 star anise⠀

300 g sugar⠀

0.5 pcs bottle (37.5 cl) liquor of your choice (vodka, cognac or rum)⠀

1 cup raisins⠀

1 cup chopped almonds⠀ ⠀

Warm up wine and seasoning slowly, add the sugar and stir until it is completely dissolved. The best thing is to heat the wine with spices the day before, and let it stand cold until the party.⠀ ⠀

Add the liquor and warm up carefully when the ‘gløgg’ is to be served.⠀ ⠀

Add raisins and chopped almonds into small bowls and serve next to the drink. Use a cinnamon stick as a stirring pin.

Serve warm and enjoy.⠀
